VA Black Hills depends on the goodwill of our volunteers who wish to give something back to America's heroes.

Volunteer

Volunteers provide many important functions throughout the Medical Center and help make our patients' stay more enjoyable. Volunteers can perform a number of services, and a volunteer's talents are closely matched with one of our assignments.

To volunteer, call or visit the  Voluntary Service Office. We will be happy to receive your application and discuss how you can help us in our mission to provide comfort and care to America's Veterans.

Donate

Cash donations are used for the comfort and welfare of our Veteran patients. We've listed a few of those needs here by location. Cash donations may be designated to support specific areas, such as: 

WE CANNOT ACCEPT KNITTED/CROCHETED BLANKETS, BAR SOAP, OUTDATED MAGAZINES OR HOME RECORDED DVD’S. We are not taking books at this time.

 Clothing: Seasonal now to include coats, winter hats (new), gloves, boots

 Mental Health in-patient:

• Slip on shoes or hard soled slippers (no shoestrings)
• Journals (notebook type without wire bindings)

Personal Care items

• Razors
• Deodorant (non-aerosol)
• Body wash
• Tooth brushes
• Lip balm
• Large Shampoo
• Large toothpaste
• Denture cleanser
• Mouth wash (non-alcohol)
• Large Shaving Cream
• Electric Razors for long term care (possible bigger project)
• Phone chargers for 113 Surgical unit that can be used for I-Phones, and Android
• Horseshoe pillows for CLC Veterans (airplane pillows) 

Red Carpet

• Activity books: word search, sudoku, etc. Colored pencils, markers

Rapid City Clinic and Rapid City Vet Center

• Coffee for waiting room/cookies

 HUDVASH/Homeless Veterans Program

• Queen size sheet sets
• Toilet paper

Hospice: Dark colored sheets twin size (new)

 

Volunteer Opportunities-Fort Meade/Rapid City

Fort Meade: Support of Mail room by stuffing letters into envelopes

Fort Meade: Clothing room 1^st and 3^rd Tuesday 8:30 – 12:00

Rapid City Clinic (3625 5^th St.): Receptionist/clerical support positions.

Rapid City Vet Center (621 6^th St): Receptionist/clerical support positions

Fort Meade: Director's Office Support receptionist Monday mornings 8:15-12:00
