Safe Care is our Mission

This is what you can expect to see in our facilities

  • Anyone entering our facilities - to include our community-based outpatient clinics – will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and exposure.
  • Inside the facilities, everyone is required to wear a face covering, mask, or face shield. If you have your own face covering, we encourage you to wear it to your appointment. If you do not have one, you will be provided a mask or face shield.
  • In our facilities you will notice plexiglass barriers, and floor markings to promote physical distancing. We have reduced capacities in our waiting rooms to adjust for physical distancing.
  • During your visit, please ensure you wash your hands or use hand sanitizer kiosks located throughout our facilities. Clean hands can stop germs from spreading from one person to another and throughout the entire facility.
  • For outpatient appointments, you may bring one caregiver to accompany you to your appointment if you require assistance.
    • If a waiting room or patient area becomes too crowded for safe physical distancing, the support person may be asked to wait in their vehicle.
  • We will be using a check-in process that involves sending you a text message to your mobile phone before you enter the facility. A return message will let you know when your team is ready to see you. Please arrive no more than 15 minutes before your appointment since waiting rooms have been reduced to accommodate physical distancing.

If you are seeking medical care, please call us before visiting. Currently, we are only taking walk-ins through the Urgent Care at Hot Springs or Emergency Room at Fort Meade. Individual departments, clinics, Lab and Radiology are not taking walk-ins. Optical services and hearing aid services will be provided by scheduled appointment only. Call us at 1-877-339-6837 for all your scheduling or nurse triage needs.

You can count on the same high-quality, safe care you've come to expect from your VA Black Hills.

As we move forward together, we appreciate your flexibility and patience during these challenging times! We are honored to be your health care provider and thank you for choosing VA.
