The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Black Hills Health Care System is pleased to announce the appointment of Dianna L. Monahan, RN as Women Veterans Program Manager. Ms. Monahan will be responsible for providing comprehensive planning for women’s health issues to improve the overall quality of care for women veterans.

Ms. Monahan has served with VA Black Hills Health Care System (VABHHCS) since 1987, in various nursing roles, health promotion and disease prevention, veterans health education coordinator and MyHealtheVet Coordinator before assuming her role as Women Veterans Program Manager.

An important and often overlooked portion of women's history is their service and sacrifice to our country. VABHHCS is proud to honor Women Veterans and their service to our country by offering "The Best Care Anywhere." Women have served in the military since the Revolutionary War. The number of women Veterans is growing rapidly with increasing demands for health care within our younger women Veterans.

VABHHCS is equally committed to and equipped to serve the health care needs of all women Veterans. Locally, VABHHCS has 2212 female veterans enrolled for services. Included are 80 female veterans aged 80 and older. VABHHCS is proud to have the only World War II Native American Women Air Force Service Pilot (WASP) amongst its roles.

VA Black Hills has trained designated women's healthcare providers who have a special interest in providing comprehensive primary care to our female veterans. Women Veterans Health Care offers a full range of medical services including health promotion and disease prevention; primary care; women’s gender-specific health care, e.g., hormone replacement therapy, breast care, gynecological and maternity care; medical/surgical specialty care; telephone care; substance abuse treatment; mental health; domiciliary; rehabilitation; and long term care.

VABHHCS appreciates input from any female veteran in the Black Hills community. If you have questions or comments please contact Dianna Monahan, RN- Women Veterans Program Manager for the VA Black Hills Health Care System 605-720-7247.
