As a training site for the South Dakota National Guard and Army National Guard Officer Candidate School, the Fort Meade campus will again see an influx of National Guard personnel participating in training activities this summer.  Approximately 200 soldiers and training staff will begin arriving on campus on June 1st with activities concluding on July 28th.

  • Opening ceremonies will take place on the Parade Ground at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 3rd.
  • Participants will use the East gate and will park equipment and private vehicles behind Building 60.
  • The cannon will be fired at 5:00 p.m. daily and at 9:00 a.m. on June 3rd during opening ceremonies.

While we do not anticipate significant impact to the Medical Center, soldiers in uniform will be more visible than during other parts of the year. Some training exercises will take place on and around the parade ground.  The Canteen food court and retail store will likely see some increase in business throughout the day.

As a reminder for our staff and Veteran patients, real weapons are not used during any of the training activities.  However, the rubber weapons that are used for training purposes look very realistic.  As part of their standard orientation, the trainees are reminded not to bring their “weapons” inside the Medical Center.

If you observe someone that has forgotten to disarm him/herself before visiting the Canteen or seeking medical treatment,  please ask a staff person to notify the Fort Meade Police Department so that they may temporarily store the weapon.

Please feel free to contact the Director’s Office with any questions or concerns.
