Mix fourteen talented, intelligent, purpose-driven, beautiful young women with several talented, intelligent, purpose-driven Veterans who served their country honorably to ensure our freedom and what do you get?  The result was Miss South Dakota pageant contestants who were humbled, honored and able to meet with Veterans. Veterans who were delighted to meet and talk with young women who have goals that will make a difference in our country’s future.

Miss South Dakota 2011 contestants visited with Veterans on the Community Living Center (CLC) and inpatient unit at the Hot Springs VAMC on June 20.  Was the visit part of the "competition" to become the future Miss South Dakota?

Certainly not, in fact one might argue that the contestants came away with the prize – meeting with and touching the lives of a few of America’s heroes.

Our thanks to Miss South Dakota organizers and especially the contestants as they took time from their schedule to make sure they connected with a few of our Veterans.  Best of luck to all of you – you are the future and after your visit it sure looks bright!
