During the holidays, it’s easy to overindulge and let your healthy habits slip. Check out our VA Black Hills Facebook page where you’ll find videos of helpful tips from our Registered Dietitians.

Start the new year off right by joining a free MOVE! Group.  We have open, closed, and web-based groups at convenient locations and times or you can join the VA Video Connect group and login from the comfort of your home.

Here are four simple tips to keep in mind during the busy holiday season.  They are brought to you by our VA Black Hills Registered Dietitians.

1. Monitor your portion sizes and fill half of the plate with vegetables.

2. Desserts! Enjoy your desserts but do so in moderation (remember portion size).

3. Stay active and keep your body moving, especially after enjoying a big meal.

4. Stay hydrated (4-6 glasses of water) or choose low calorie drinks such as lightly or unsweetened tea or coffee. If you choose a favorite holiday drink like eggnog, use a 4 oz glass and stay away from sugar sweetened beverages such as regular soda, energy drinks, and sports drinks
