Gold Standard in Patient Safety
Department of Veterans Affairs Black Hills Health Care System Receives Cornerstone Recognition Program Gold Standard for Patient Safety
The Department of Veterans Affairs National Center for Patient Safety (NCPS) has awarded VA Black Hills Health Care System the Gold Standard for 2019. Gold is the highest designation for achievement in safety processes and evaluation. The distinction is a part of the Cornerstone Recognition Program whose goal is to measure and recognize outstanding patient safety efforts at the facility level. 2019 marks the seventh consecutive year VA Black Hills has been recognized for meeting the highest standard in patient safety.
In addition to judging the overall cultural of safety, accuracy, and speed in responding to safety concerns, the committee evaluates an innovative and sustainable solution implemented by the facility. “We are proud of our strong patient safety program. Teams throughout the organization work together to proactively look at issues of patient safety to produce improved outcomes for Veterans”, said Sandra Horsman, Director VA Black Hills Health Care System.
In 2008, a formal recognition program was initiated by the NCPS to apply standard criteria across all Veteran Healthcare Administration facilities. Each then receives recognition only if they achieve the rigorous standards established by the Cornerstone Recognition Program.
