My HealtheVet Kiosks
Ms. Arneson helps a Veteran set up Secure Messaging on their MHV account.
With the addition of four My HealtheVet kiosks at VA Black Hills Health Care System, it will now be easier for Veterans to register for a My HealtheVet (MHV) account and participate in Secure Messaging. Two of the kiosks are located at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center with one in the main lobby and the other in the Mental Health waiting area. At Hot Springs VA Medical Center, one kiosk is located in the first floor lobby of the hospital while the other is in the Primary Care waiting area. "Before or after their next appointment Veterans may use the kiosks to get their My HealtheVet account set up," said Deann Arneson, My HealtheVet coordinator at VA Black Hills. She added that after getting their account set up, Veterans should take the next step in getting full access to all My HealtheVet features by completing an In-Person Authentication form while they are still at the facility. "These forms can be picked up and dropped off at any of our primary care clinics, Community-Based Out-Patient Clinics or at the Release of Information offices at either the Hot Springs or Ft. Meade campus," Arneson said. Once authenticated Veterans can enjoy the advanced features of My HealtheVet which include:
Secure Messaging is a popular feature of My HealtheVet. It is similar to email, but completely safe and secure. "Secure Messaging isn’t meant for urgent medical needs," Arneson said. "But it is a great way to ask questions about appointments, medications or other health care-related questions." She added that secure messaging allows patients to send in questions on their schedule and not just during regular business hours. "There’s no phone tag or missed phone calls," Arneson noted.
